Tom Cottrell is a reliable and creative editor with over 20 years of experience working on many different projects.

Having a clear and focused understanding of what it means to create a good narrative, he works equally well to a brief from a team, with directors, producers and clients or on his own.

Ensuring a method of concentrating on the story content and setting up properly technically first, then implementing the style secondly assists him to build, create and craft the material to a final edit.

A good sense of timing and rhythm allows him to solve most edit suite problems strategically. Being passionate about music and sound, Tom has a well grounded concept of sound design. He also makes interesting sound effects and sound designs. 

With a good understanding of graphics he can work well with graphic designers and online editors. He can also create basic colour grades and effects in Resolve.

He specialises mainly in documentary drama television for major broadcasters, though he can work in many other genres.  

He works predominantly from his custom built edit cabin and in central London edit suites. 

He studied media and photography at a young age completing an HND at The London College of Printing. He went on to be a runner and editing apprentice at Ridley Scott Associate's in London where he worked his way up in music videos, shorts, commercials and brand in advertising production companies and agencies, eventually developing as a fully fledged editor with a unique style in television.

He enjoys playing football, photography, country walks, cooking, DIY,  music, films, and good TV.
